"There is nothing, absolutely nothing half so much worth doing
as simply messing about in boats."
-Ratty, Wind in the Willows
We started this business for the best possible reason: We love to paddle.
And wanting to share the magic with others, we put our bow in the water as outfitters, guides and friends to those fresh to the discovery and seasoned alike. Then asked ourselves, "Why?"
"I love adventure and active exploration that doesn't pollute the air, foul the water or waste petroleum, and I want to share the things I love to do," says Doug Baum.
In my kayak I am amphibious - playing quietly alongside the other creatures who belong in this environment" says, Tove Andvik.
Third partner David Steel says, "As some believe the horse is a bridge between animal and man, I believe the kayak is a bridge between the land and the sea."
"For me", says fourth partner Wyn Berry, "Kayaking is a combination-the challenge of high adventure, a sensual immersion in the realness of the natural world and a compelling tranquility."
Maybe this is your year for an amazing self-discovery experience. Puget Sound. With a little help.
Paddle Puget Sound
The islands, bays and inlets of America's kayaking epicenter. As people have
been doing for roughly 6,000 years on Puget Sound, you carry your slender boat
to the edge of the island and slide it into water that shimmers like satin in
the early morning light.
Today you may see a salmon leap, an eagle soar overhead, hear the snort of a sea lion, the splash of an Orca. Things you only dream about are easily attainable by simply stepping into a sea kayak.
No wonder these inland waterways are considered among the best in the world for sea kayaking.
And it's so easy. Just drive on a ferry to rural Vashon Island and Quartermaster Harbor.
So if you would like to discover Puget Sound from the seal's eye view from a sea kayak-for one hour, a day, or an extended trip-just give us a call!
Washington's Cascadia Marine Trail
There is nothing like it in the world.
Picture a trail that extends 140 miles from Olympia in South Puget Sound all the way through the San Juans to the Canadian border. Every few miles there are campsites just for human-powered craft.
This trail, instead of walking on, you sit in, flow with, and glide over- following an ancient tradition of paddling Puget Sound.
How unique is this trail?
The US Department of the Interior has given it the same status as the Pacific Crest Trail, which stretches from Mexico to Canada. In other words, it is a national treasure. Internationally the trail has achieved 'Ecotourism for Tomorrow' honors, sponsored by British Airways and travel associations worldwide, for its harmony with the natural world.
Consider Puget Sound Kayak Company as your outfitter to the Cascadia Marine Trail.
